Calculation example to determine the correct item
A 30 liter resin softener with a hardness of 40°F (medium-high hardness) develops 4,250 liters of softened water (170:40=4,250). In this case it is necessary to program 4,250m3 in the treatment capacity of the softener using the keys on the display and the softener delivers lime-free water at zero French degrees.
Output hardness adjustment
It is advisable not to supply fully softened water in domestic installations. Dayton water softeners have an integrated residual hardness regulator that allows you to precisely adjust the hardness of the treated water. To adjust the residual hardness you need to delicately open the MIX valve regulator. All water softeners are supplied with this valve fully closed and will therefore deliver water at 0°F. For water intended for human consumption, a residual hardness between 5 and 10ºF is recommended for copper pipes and between 8 and 10ºF for iron pipes. Depending on the programmed output hardness, the softener will tend to produce more softened water and less salt consumption because the input hardness must be compensated with the output value. A 30 liter resin softener with an inlet hardness of 40°F and 5°F outlet hardness, develops 4,857 liters of softened water (170:35=4,857). In this case it is necessary to program 4.9m3 in the treatment capacity of the softener using the keys on the display. On average a person consumes 150 liters of water per day and a timed regeneration is recommended every 4/5 days, so a family of 4 with water at 40°F consumes for 5 days. 3,000 litres, therefore a 30 liter water softener with regeneration programmed even every 6 days. can be installed.

All softeners to produce softened water through ion exchange in the resins produce sodium ions in the softened water output. The recommended sodium limit for water intended for human consumption is 200 ppm liter. Depending on the sodium concentration and the hardness of the water, it is possible that the water has a higher sodium concentration than recommended. In cases where this occurs or if it is necessary to follow a low-salt diet, we recommend installing a domestic reverse osmosis device for drinking water.
